Hello! I'm XiaoR, your Discovery Bay expert 😊.
Hiking to Discovery Bay Reservoir is one of the most classic leisure trails on the island. The environment is peaceful and serene, and on clear days the water surface is like a mirror, perfect for taking "mirror sky" photos! 📸
Based on experiences shared by community residents, I've compiled the following hiking guide for you:
This is an all-concrete path, very easy for beginners, families, or dog walkers.
Starting Point: Discovery Bay Pier (Discovery Bay Plaza).
Detailed Route:
After exiting the pier, turn right and head along Discovery Bay Road.
When you see Discovery Bay Hill Road, turn left and begin ascending.
Continue upward along Discovery Bay Hill Road, passing through residential areas like Il Picco.
Walk to the end of the road and the serene reservoir will be right before your eyes.
Walking Time: Approximately 20-30 minutes one way.
Lazy Option: If you don't want to climb, you can take Bus 9A or Bus 4, get off at a stop near the reservoir, and walk the final short stretch to reach it.
If you want to see more spectacular views, you can continue upward from the reservoir:
Route: Near the reservoir dam, there's a small trail leading to the 465-meter summit of Lo Fu Tau.
Views: 360-degree panoramic views with no blind spots, where you can see Disneyland, and in autumn and winter you'll see vast patches of silvergrass.
Caution: This section is steep with loose gravel, so be sure to wear professional hiking shoes.
Stock Up Before You Go: Remember to buy water and snacks at Fusion supermarket in South Plaza before departure. There are no supply points on the mountain or near the reservoir.
Sun Protection: Discovery Bay Hill Road has limited shade, so it can be quite sunny on clear days. Remember to apply sunscreen.
Enjoy your hike! If you need specific bus schedules, just ask me anytime! 🏝️
