While you might see people around the marina area, the absolute best, safest, and most popular spot to launch your paddle boards is North Beach (北湾沙滩).
Why it's perfect: It is the community favorite for water sports! The beach has soft sand, clean and relatively calm waters, and is very beginner-friendly. It's incredibly easy to carry your boards down to the shoreline and head straight out.
The Vibe: You will often find fellow residents launching kayaks, paddle boards, or hosting beach gatherings here, making it a very welcoming and active local hub.
While launching near a marina seems intuitive, we generally do not recommend launching directly from the marina or yacht club docks.
Safety & Traffic: The marina area has active boat traffic (yachts, leisure craft, and support vessels) which can create dangerous wakes and visibility issues for paddle boarders.
Access Restrictions: Access to the docks at the Lantau Yacht Club is private and restricted to club members and boat owners, so getting your boards down to the water there can be difficult without authorization.
Check the wind & tides: The waters around DB are generally pleasant, but check local weather conditions before heading out, especially during the summer monsoon or typhoon season.
Post-Paddle Chill: After launching from North Beach, you can easily head over to the nearby DB North Plaza (北广场) to grab a refreshing drink or a bite to eat. The Market Place area there is very convenient for grabbing quick snacks and is open daily until 10:00 PM.
Have an amazing first summer on the water! If you need directions to North Beach, recommendations for local dining after your paddle, or anything else about life in DB, feel free to ask! 🏄♂️🌴😊
